Christian Meditation
The definition of Christian Meditation:
As the name denotes it is the meditation in reference to Christianity. The root of Christian Meditation is in the Bible, requiring its readers to meditate.. The Christian Meditation has two aspects. The first aspect relates to the focused thought and the second represents the state of quiet awareness. Christian Meditation suggests the study of scripture or a prayer. Through Joshua 1:8, God's commands have been produced. This asks people to meditate upon His words day and night for actualization. Start of Christian Meditation commenced by the practice of reading the Bible slowly. Earlier days the monks used to comprehend the deeper meaning of each verse when they read it. This illustrated the thoughtful reading of the scripture and the meditation aspect of spiritual practice. This is referred to as 'divine reading' also.
What is the opinion of leaders on Christian Meditation?:
The significance of Christian Meditation is that, the Bible commands us to do think about God's word. Since, it is our thoughts which determine our behavioral pattern and therefore, our thinking process is important. It is due to this reason, God wants us to think about only His Word or do meditate upon it. As Jim Downing quotes, in Meditation: 'it is a vital exercise of the minds of His children'. In The Purpose Driven Life, Rick Warren defines Meditation this way: 'It is the focused thinking, needing serious efforts. In meditation, you are selecting a verse and reflecting on it over and over in your mind…….it is in the same way that you know how to worry, you already know how to meditate.
How do we do Christian Meditation?
During the day, we can actively divert our minds towards the God's Words, at least for three times. Before retiring, we can ponder over God's Words that will be the last thing of the day occupying our mind. When we awake the next day morning, it is the God's Words that will again fill our minds to start our day. Meantime during the day, we can again choose a specific time to be actively in the God's Words, so that it can have a constant speech with us throughout the day. The focusing aspect in Christian Meditation is obviously the things which are true, honorable, upright and pure. Read and recite the verses that are lovely and having of good repute. Dwell upon the things worthy of praise and having excellence.
