Hypnosis and meditation
Introduction
Hypnosis is a process in which critical thinking faculties of the mind are bypassed and a type of selective thinking and perception is established. Hypnosis is a natural state of mind we go into everyday. It is highly debatable when one says that being hypnotic is being in an altered state of consciousness of mind. Hypnosis is a process involving a hypnotist and a subject to be hypnotized. Hypnosis is characterized by intense concentration, extreme relaxation and high suggestibility. There can also be the process of self hypnosis. Hypnosis is used to reduce pain during dental treatments, surgical processes, to treat psychological disorders or to enhance academic performance also. Many theories suggest that we are in a constant state of hypnosis in our daily lives. For e.g. one might just miss a turn while driving on the road or one might be so engrossed in one's computer job that he or she may overlook somebody calling them for nearly ten minutes.
Meditation
Meditation is bringing together all the energies of the mind. It is an emptying process. Meditation is a time to quieten the mind and still the thoughts that run through the mind all day along. One needs to look at the thought process from outside, taking an outsider's view point. It has been proven that meditation helps relieve stress, lowers the blood pressure and mental peace and strength. Meditation also helps to elevate us spiritually. Meditation helps to put life in different perspective. So are meditation and hypnosis one and the same? The truth is that they are not.
Meditation versus Hypnosis
The essence of true meditation is the absence of all thought and to just be. Hypnosis, on the other hand, is to have a desired thought, and affect a desired outcome. The difference between hypnosis and meditation is that the hypnotist s may take the person down the path but instead of having the person look at the flowers, they will have the person work on pre accomplished goals. Spiritually, we are in a continuous hypnotic state. Hypnosis is a great way to enhance meditation. Hypnosis is a powerful tool to know as to why we are stuck on to believing certain things. One can enter one's sub-conscious mind through the scientific process of hypnosis and reconnect with one's spiritual self through this process. Once this session is over, there is immense peace and quiet; most suitable situation for a meditative state; to awaken one's higher good.
