What is Beginners Yoga?

If you are new to the practice of yoga, then it is important for you to understand the basics and essentials of beginners yoga. Basically beginners yoga is simply the most novice form of yoga, and it is the place where anyone who wants to participate in yoga or make the activity a part of their life needs to start.

While all yoga styles seek the same thing, which is to seek balance in the body, mind, and spirit, they all tend to go about it in different ways, and the same applies to that of beginners yoga. For instance, different yoga styles and levels may also make a difference in how the poses or positions are done, as well as in regards to where the focus the attention.

As well, some types of yoga will use props in their practice, while others will not. In beginners yoga, regardless of what actual type of yoga is being practiced, there are usually no props used as this is the simplest form of yoga and relies on only the basics in order to make it as easy as possible for everyone.

What Types of Yoga are There?

There are many different types of yoga that are available, and if you are a beginner to the activity, you will need to decide on what type of yoga you want to participate in. For instance, some of the available options are: Ananda, which puts the emphasis on meditation; Anusara, which is heart-oriented; Ashtanga, which is considered as being the power of yoga; Bikram, which involves increasing the temperature in the work during practices; and Integral, which involves the healing power of relaxation.

There is also the option of Iyngar, which involves the matters of symmetry and alignment; Kripalu, which is considered as being the yoga of consciousness; Kundalini, which is considered to focus on the awakening of energy; Sivananda, which encourages that of a healthy lifestyle; Tantra, which is about sensual spirituality; and Viniyoga, which encourages that of a gentle flow.

Regardless of what type of yoga you decide on, or whether you are a beginner to the activity or not, the most important thing to remember is that regardless of your choices, the art of yoga in itself will allow you to reap more benefits than perhaps you ever thought possible with any sort of exercise program. This is not only referring to the health of your body either, but your mind as well.

Yoga and Sports: Skiing

It is incredible what yoga does for skiing. People can ski all day long and much better.

Conditioning before hitting the slopes can increase the safety and enjoyment of the sport. Most ski injuries occur early in the day when muscles are tight and enthusiasm is high, and late in the day when muscles are weakened and technique is poor.

A simple yoga exercise called the awkward pose, can increase your strength, balance and concentration which will make the ski season more rewarding.

It consists of three variations which are done sequentially.

To begin, stand with the feet apart, about shoulder width, an even distance (approximately six inches) between your heels and toes. Extend the arms out in front of you parallel to the floor with the shoulders pressed down and away from the head. Keep the upper body strong and firm in this position.

Bend your knees and shift the weight back into the heels, pushing the buttocks out behind you. When the top of the thighs are parallel to the floor and arms, hold your pose. The feet should be held parallel and the knees should only be shoulder width apart.

One good way to think of getting into this pose is to imagine that you are sitting in an invisible chair leaning back to bring the spine and shoulders against the back of the chair. The arm muscles are contracted, the abdomen is held tight and your breathing should be normal. Hold the pose for 20 seconds. Stand up.

The second part of this series is similar to the first. Keep the upper body the same as before and stand straight up onto the balls of the feet, standing as high as possible with the arches pressed forward. To keep the ankles strong and straight, press down with each big toe. Now, bend the knees again keeping the spine straight and stop when the quadriceps are parallel to the floor. Hold this pose for 20 seconds. Stand up. You will find this second pose a bit more difficult.

Third, assume the same basic pose with upper body firm and strong. Again, slowly bend the knees and this time sit all the way down lightly onto the heels. Now press the knees together and hold the body still. The quadriceps are again level with the floor and the spine is straight. Hold again for 20 seconds. Stand up out of the pose slowly, bring the heels down and relax. Don't forget to do a second set of all three poses.

Mantra meditation

An overview:

Mantra meditation is the technique of using sound to open the heart of mind. This is the meditation technique of devotion, a deeply spiritual and sacred practice for many meditators. Mantras can be whatever chosen-they do not need to be Sanskrit mantras that are frequently used in yoga. A mantra is a sound repeated over and over until it integrates into the consciousness. It frees the mind from strains and elevates to an altered state of awareness. In this state one can connect with the soul at its most profound level, achieving a state of universal consciousness. The origin of mantras goes back to the Vedic tradition that preceded the Buddha, where mantras were used as incantations to influence or even control the gods. Mantra meditation is the easiest and safest form of meditation and can be practiced by anyone at anytime and under any conditions. The most common way of practicing mantra meditation is japa.

Some common mantras:

Mantras are often taught using Sanskrit words or phases. Some common mantras are; OM-the sound of the universe. Sat Nam means truth. So Ham means life/death, light/shadow and the integration of opposites. This mantra is a powerful mantra, honoring both the light and the shadow. Om Namah Shivaya mean the phoenix rising, creation born to change. Aham brahmasmi means I am the creative force. Shanti, Shanti, Shanti means Peace, Peace, Peace. Some of the commonly used English mantras are I am, I surrender to yourwill, love, peace to all, I open to what is, all is well.

Power of mantras:

The mantras have a profound impact because of two reasons; the vibration effect of the sound and the effect of the collective emotional energy behind that word due to constant repetition over time. Mantras act upon the body by reprogramming the vibrations of the cells. They restore the pattern of sound at the heart of each and every cell, thus pushing the cells towards harmonious health. Mantras not only affect the physical body but also the subtle body - emotions, intellect and soul. They positively affect the energy shields surrounding the body.

Power Yoga - Powering it up

We may not be familiar with power yoga as it is not fully introduced to us. Power yoga is known as the western version of Ashtanga Yoga which brought by the Indians.

Beryl Bender Birch was the one who gave the term Power Yoga. He was a teacher of Ashtanga Yoga and at the same time an author of Power Yoga.

Yoga was inspired and was brought to the west by the renowned Sanskrit Scholar Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. The people of the west were inspired with his Ashtanga Yoga and also his philosophies.

Power Yoga is described to be the the practice of Yoga Poses which is done continuously in a series of exercises without stopping. The practice is accompanied by the Vinsaya which is known as riding the breath. This enables you to make certain movements from one pose to another.

The power yoga is characterized by vigorous exercises which challenges your physical and mental ability and concentration. This enables you to reach your inner power and connect with it.

The difference of power yoga is that the poses are done faster in a pace. This practice is essential and helpful in increasing your physical endurance.

Power yoga enables you to maintain and keep up a good focus at a longer time without breaking or distracting your concentration. if you need to fully concentrate with something, power yoga might just be the right type for you.

Power yoga has some similarities with the modified versions of Ashtanga Yoga. The certain practices of Iyengar yoga and Bikram also influenced power yoga.

Just like Bikram Yoga, notice that Power Yoga also applies the execution of the common basic yoga poses which is a good practice because even the beginners can do it.

Power yoga also adapted some practices of the Iyengar Yoga which gives emphasis on the form and alignment during the practice. It also includes practice in holding a pose longer without breaking which aims to achieve maximum benefits.

Although Power Yoga has been influenced by a lot of yoga types, still it aims on the steps of Classical Yoga. It aims to unite the body, the spirit and the mind uniquely. The main objective of yoga is for you to be able to connect to your inner power and to reach every level through the poses and practices.

With the help of power Yoga, you can dig deep to your physical, mental and spiritual power.

Power yoga is considered a good training for athletes. Not only does it train them to concentrate deeply but it also aids them in the prevention of injuries and rehabilitation that may come.

If you want to do Power Yoga, you should know first if your health condition can withstand the practice. You should know that Power Yoga is dine in a heated room which is perfectly designed to increase the strength and flexibility, increase your concentration, release tension, stamina and tone in your body which is achieved and released through sweat.

Power yoga can be taught by teachers but there might be some differences depending upon who is teaching it. The people who are healthy and fit can do and practice power yoga. If you enjoy doing exercises and if you want less chanting, power yoga is the best style for you.

Learn Transcendental Meditation

What is Transcendental Meditation?

The transcendental meditation technique is a simple, natural, effortless process whereby the mind easily and naturally arrives at the source of the thought, the settled state of the mind-Transcendental consciousness- pure consciousness, which is the source of all the creative processes. The Advantages of Ashtanga Yoga

What is Ashtanga Yoga?

Ashtanga yoga is a system of yoga which involves synchronizing the breath with that of a progressive series of postures, and it is a process which truly and completely produces that of intense internal heat as well as a profuse and purifying sweat that is supposed to detoxify the muscles and organs of the body.
